Art Today were in attendance once again at this year’s automobile and performance extravaganza in the midst of the Hampshire countryside…
Braving the disastrous weather, our crew – made up of magazine personnel and local contacts – took in the sights and sounds on offer. From Rak Su to Paloma Faith, Sophie Ellis-Bextor to Razorlight, performers carried on regardless to delight the crowds.
Car enthusiasts were stunned to be able to admire next season’s highly anticipated Season 5 Generation 2 Formula E car and Mike Hawthorne’s 1955 LeMans Winning Jaguar D-Type, Ayrton Senna’s 1984 Toleman-Hart F1 car along with John Surtees’ F5000 car.
In the CarFest Kitchen, previous Bake Off winner – Candace Brown – and 2017 Celebrity MasterChef winner – Angelica Bell – cooked up a storm.
As the weekend wore on, further weather warnings failed to dampen the crowd’s spirit. Stalwart locals were in attendance with serious all-weather gear, and were unphased by the event organisers’ advice to store all belongings in their cars and away from inner tent walls! Main event stage music pumped out towards the perimeter and beyond, enlivening the cold and misty air towards Basingstoke and Winchester.
CarFest’s worthy benefactor – Children in Need – has so far gained over £10million from the 11 events held to date. The brainchild of radio host Chris Evans, the festival continues to progress from strength to strength and is well worth an annual spot on the family calendar.
