The HERE NOW Exhibition:-
HERE NOW will see a change in the usual gallery summer show. The old ‘MIX’ has been replaced with an exhibition that more closely embodies the gallery and its direction. The exhibition will show a select group of high-order artists which centre on what is happening right now.
The Summer Exhibition will feature brand new works by currently-represented artists, plus a carefully-selected and exciting range of the new. There will also be classic artworks which are just too good to leave aside.
This year’s line-up is distinctly and deliberately international – in part to highlight that – as a British gallery located in the heart of London – Lawrence Alkin welcomes all artists from the world over – and equally sells their works all over the world. According to the gallery, it is their logical protest against the current Brexit movement. They state:-
‘We have and will always continue to trade on the international stage’.
Our Thoughts:-
Art Today are particularly looking forward to seeing Florian Eymann‘s works at the gallery again. We last reported on his ‘Psyche-Soma’ show there in May 2017 (https://wp.me/p7HPAV-eN) and were taken aback by his stunning mixed-media, oil/watercolour physical distortion pieces.
Zoe Grace is another of Art Today’s favourites. Her neon signs are a breath of fresh air, and take the bare minimum of words to sum up the zeitgeist of contemporary times. They are heart-felt renderings of emotion that touch the soul and illuminate one’s day. (Zoe was our very first Work of the Week Winner in February this year: https://wp.me/p7HPAV-uP).
Nick Smith‘s fascinating take on the price of art in modern culture – his exhibition at Lawrence Alkin gallery entitled ‘Priceless’ earlier this year – is a must-see show. Our interview with him shed light on the special value certain artworks have and how that can accrue boundless auction sale prices:- https://wp.me/p7HPAV-vB.
Meanwhile, hyperrealistic painter Abi Whitlock‘s superb works have been well-documented by Art Today of late. She has been both a Work of the Week Winner and a featured artist. (See https://wp.me/p7HPAV-Kq and https://wp.me/p7HPAV-Ke).
Details:-
The Private Viewing will take place on 2nd August from 6 – 8pm, with drinks served on the night courtesy of the Clarendon Cocktail Cellar at Artist Residence.
